PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) is a comprehensive approach focused on the critical development of the early years of a child. This training course explores the essential principles and practices that support young children’s cognitive, physical, social, and emotional growth. This course aims to grasp the basic stages of child development and effectively apply this information in real-life scenarios to improve teaching methods and curriculum design. An essential part of this course is allowing trainees to improve their ability to develop an appropriate curriculum. As trainees better understand young children, they will integrate this knowledge into their curriculum planning.
AIMS
- To recognize the characteristics of a competent preschool educator and an effective preschool curriculum.
- To establish an understanding of children’s growth, characteristics of young children, and practices suitable for their development.
- To acquire expertise in curriculum designing and lesson planning.
- To show the skill of recognizing methods for observing, screening, and evaluating different early childhood programs.
- To demonstrate proficiency in observing diverse programs, synthesizing information, and assessing data regarding the impact of cultural, linguistic, and ability variations.
COURSE CONTENTS:
6 Core Modules (major focus on National Curriculum Pakistan 2022)
Module 1: Foundations of Early Childhood Education
Objective: Introduce Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) principles, historical context, child rights, and their relevance to Pakistan’s national framework.
Topics to be Covered:
– Importance of ECCE: Global and local perspectives
– Developmental domains: Physical, cognitive, emotional, social
– National Curriculum for ECCE 2022: Key learning areas and outcomes
– Role of the ECCE educator in the Pakistani context
– Ethics, professionalism, and child protection policies
Module 2: Child Development (early years)
Objective: Understand developmental milestones, cultural contexts, and learning trajectories.
Topics to be Covered:
- Developmental stages aligned with the National Curriculum learning continuum
- Brain development and stimulation through local resources
- Emotional security and attachment in Pakistani families
- Atypical development and culturally relevant early intervention strategies
- Principles and Developmental Objectives of ECCE
Module 3: Teaching methodologies of Language & Numeracy
Objective: Enable participants to design and implement developmentally appropriate and contextually relevant curriculum
Topics to be Covered:
- Key learning areas from Pakistan’s 2022 ECCE curriculum (e.g., Personal and Social Development, Language and Literacy, Basic Mathematical Concepts, etc.)
- Play-based and experiential learning methods
- Use of the national ECCE Activity Bank and Learning Materials
- Inclusive and multi-grade teaching strategies
- Creative arts
- Multiple Intelligences
- Incorporating Sensorial and realia in ECCE
- Introduction to Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and local ECCE practices
Module 4: Health, Nutrition, and Safety
Objective: Ensure the health and safety of children while integrating local guidelines.

- Health and hygiene routines from the national ECCE guidelines
- Nutritional needs and local food practices
- Preventive healthcare and immunization
- Creating safe indoor and outdoor learning environments
- Parental awareness for child well-being in Pakistan
Module 5: Classroom Management and Learning Environment
Objective: Foster engaging, inclusive, and culturally rich ECCE classrooms.
Topics to be Covered:
- Structuring environments based on learning areas suggested in the National Curriculum
- Time-table and daily routines from the ECCE guidelines
- Effective educational methodologies
- Developing criteria of child assessment and record keeping
- Effective Lesson Planning techniques for ECCE
- Introduction to prepared environment

- Behavior guidance techniques
- Use of low-cost, no-cost local materials and visual aids

Module 6: Collaboration with Parents and Community
Objective: Strengthen collaboration between ECCE centers, families, and communities.

- Graduation / A levels in any discipline with 1 year of teaching experience
